March Muses

Christmas decorations, representation & culture

Founded by Alison Burton and Natalie Duvall, March Muses is a Black-owned British brand created to bring greater representation to Christmas.

Through festive decorations designed with different skin tones, hair textures and experiences in mind, Alison and Natalie are helping more people see themselves and their families reflected in the traditions that make Christmas feel special.

With Jamaican heritage and roots in the Windrush generation, their collection also celebrates the culture, memories and everyday references that connect Caribbean communities across the diaspora.

Representation at Christmas

March Muses was born from Alison Burton and Natalie Duvall’s frustration at how difficult it was to find Christmas decorations that reflected themselves, their families and the diverse world around them. What began as a desire to make Christmas more representative grew into a brand built around helping more people see themselves in the traditions that fill their homes each festive season.

From different skin tones and natural hair textures to characters, professions and familiar cultural references, Alison and Natalie create decorations that broaden the picture of what Christmas can look like — bringing representation into the small details that become part of family traditions year after year.

As women of Jamaican heritage and granddaughters of the Windrush generation, their own family story adds another layer to March Muses — connecting representation with culture, memory and the experiences of the Caribbean diaspora.

A Christmas That Looks Like Us

For Alison and Natalie, representation at Christmas is about more than decorations. It is about the joy of seeing yourself, your family and your community reflected in the traditions that fill your home.

March Muses brings that representation to the Christmas tree through characters with different skin tones, natural hair and stories — creating decorations that feel familiar, personal and worthy of becoming part of family traditions for years to come.

Culture on the Christmas Tree

March Muses goes beyond representation in who appears on the Christmas tree, bringing culture itself into the decorations.

From a miniature Dutch pot — instantly familiar in Caribbean kitchens — to Winston, a red London bus inspired by the Windrush generation and the Caribbean men who helped build and sustain Britain’s transport system, familiar objects become festive keepsakes with stories behind them.

It is this mix of celebration, nostalgia and cultural memory that made March Muses feel so at home in The Caribbean Corner.
